Council discusses adding Sunday I-9 sports sessions at Country Estates park; parks director recommends fall start

Council members discussed a request to allow I-9 Sports League to offer Sunday programming at Country Estates Fishing Hole Park so residents who observe the Sabbath can participate.
Russell (staff) said the vendor requested the change and staff will bring an amendment to the contract if council agrees. Parks Director December Laura Tano Haynes told the council the Recreation, Forestry and Natural Resources Advisory Board recommended allowing the program and that the vendor would like to begin publicity and aim for a fall (October) start. "Consequently, that may... limit the number of private reservations to a short period in the afternoon when we know the sports programs are going to be over," Haynes said, noting the program has attracted many participants from both inside and outside the town.
Council members said they supported the expansion to Sundays to better serve residents who cannot attend Saturday sessions for religious reasons, and staff indicated they would return with a contract amendment for formal approval. The parks director also provided related updates on community events and a residential composting pilot (enrolling the first 100 participants) and noted interest forms are on the town website for residents who want to participate.
No vote was taken at the meeting; staff will prepare a contract amendment and return it for council consideration.
