Council appoints Kyle Bennett as assistant fire chief for Southwest Ranches volunteer department

The Town of Southwest Ranches approved the appointment of Kyle Bennett as assistant fire chief for the Southwest Ranches Volunteer Fire Department during the board-of-directors portion of its meeting.
Council members voted to fill the vacancy after Deputy Fire Chief William Uptograph informed leadership of his immediate retirement. Administrative staff provided Bennett’s resume and said he is a Southwest Ranches homeowner with 21 years in the fire service and has risen through the ranks to the rank of captain. The council voted to hire Bennett by voice vote; the clerk recorded the motion as passing.
Russell (town administration) told the council the town had the authority to appoint the replacement and that Bennett brings operational and administrative experience. After the vote, council members congratulated Bennett, who said, “I look forward to working with everyone here.”
No formal amendment or additional conditions were recorded. The council treated the vote as a staffing appointment by the board of directors of the volunteer fire department; no separate ordinance or ordinance number was cited. The appointment became effective on passage.
The council immediately adjourned the board portion and resumed the regularly scheduled council meeting.
