Planning bureau reports tree inventory, $400K+ grant spending and parks-plan progress

Bureau staff reported completion of a public-right-of-way tree inventory (18,511 sites counted, 16% in 'good' condition) and more than $400,000 spent on related plantings and grants; the Erie Outside parks plan is moving into draft recommendations with a June target and an April study session planned for the commission.
The Bureau of Planning and Zoning provided updates on urban forestry and parks planning.
Staff said Arbor Pro completed a public-right-of-way tree inventory that recorded 16,771 trees, 627 stumps and 1,113 vacant sites (18,511 sites total). The inventory estimated annual benefits of $5,643,211 from stormwater management and energy savings and rated about 16% of inventoried trees as in "good" condition, with the remainder assessed as poor or worse. Staff said the bureau is closing out a watershed and urban forestry MAP grant and that more than $400,000 was spent across inventory work, partner plantings and city plantings.
Planning staff also reported that Erie Outside, the parks and recreation plan, is entering draft recommendations after more than 30 stakeholder meetings; staff are targeting a June finish and plan an April study session with the planning commission to review progress.
