The application covered both a request to change canopy colors and a request to lift the property out of violation by extending the maintenance deadline.
The applicant, addressed in the meeting as Mr. Beonus, described progress and remaining work. He said he had completed “about five areas” of tuckpointing and identified “about 55 other areas” that still need attention, and that the second-story windows require substantial rebuilding. He told the commission he estimated roughly “85 days of work” to finish the maintenance tasks but acknowledged weather and access challenges (wires and scaffolding) could cause delays. The applicant said he would hold off on painting canopies until structural maintenance is complete.
Commissioners discussed color options and the maintenance timeline. After discussion the commission voted to accept the gold canopy color sample shown in the packet. Commissioners then considered how long to extend the maintenance deadline; some members urged caution about repeatedly granting extensions and asked for a firm deadline. Commissioner Nathan Turner moved — and Commissioner Carol McPeek seconded — to grant a 90-day extension to complete the minimum maintenance plan. Lisa Kennedy, Nathan Turner, Carol McPeek and Valerie Duncan voted yes, and the motion passed 4–0.
The commission recorded that the extension was intended to lift the property out of violation if the work is completed within the new deadline; commissioners asked staff to monitor progress and bring further requests back to the commission if additional time is needed. The matter of the applicant’s separate work on a firehouse was noted to be handled in a later agenda item and not part of this extension.
