The Oakdale City Council unanimously appointed Katie Rich to the vacant city council seat and administered her oath of office during the Nov. 10 meeting.
Council members swore in Rich after Mayor Zabel invited the newly appointed member to the dais and City Administrator Vulkers administered the oath. Rich repeated the oath of office and thanked the council and the community, saying she was "looking forward to serving Oakdale and learning more about this amazing city."
After a point of order noting the council needed to record the formal appointment, a council member moved and seconded a motion to appoint Katherine (Katie) Rich to the vacant seat for the remainder of the term ending Jan. 4, 2027; the motion passed by voice vote.
The appointment fills the vacancy created when former council member Susan Willenbring resigned in June. Council members encouraged Rich as she took the seat and noted the work ahead for the council in the coming months.
