Oakdale parks staff correct recycling claim, report event and operations changes

City parks staff gave several operational updates during the Feb. 17 meeting. Corey (staff member) corrected an earlier statement about recycling: the city’s disposal provider separates only a portion of park-collected materials at a single-sort facility, and staff will meet with environmental specialist Hannah Dunn in March to plan expanded recycling across parks.
Staff said the farmers market will move to the west lot near city hall during impending city hall construction to separate market operations from construction traffic; one portion of the primary city-hall lot will remain open to the public. Staff also reported that recent warm weather damaged outdoor ice rinks and that some rinks were closed for safety reasons pending colder nights.
Other updates: an indoor garage sale is scheduled for April 11; Walton Fields lighting project was completed after adjustments; seasonal parks & recreation recruitments are open on the city website; and staff included a draft 2026 Parks & Recck commission work plan in the packet for commissioners’ review prior to presenting it to council.
