A district staff member summarized the board's October discussion of Vision 2030, saying the board reviewed five strategies focused on future‑ready learning, student agency and facilities planning.
"We believe every student brings value and is capable of excellence," the staff member said, describing six competencies the district will emphasize: adaptability, critical thinking, integrity, perseverance, emotional intelligence and communication. The district plans to develop grade‑level expectations and classroom frameworks under the leadership of Dr. Kite.
The staff member said the district has engaged consultants to help clarify success criteria and learner intentions and to strengthen collaborative teacher teams so students and teachers have clear learning targets. The consultants aim to help teachers design lessons and units that let students demonstrate mastery in real‑world contexts.
On alternative education, the staff member characterized the current alternative school program as "reactive" and said Mr. Newton is leading a team to study models that could better serve students in roughly grades 7–12. The exploration includes blended models that would allow surrounding schools to send students to a central program, and will consider wraparound supports such as counseling and social workers.
The staff member said accommodating an expanded alternative program will require additional space and is tied to broader facilities planning, including possible repurposing of the high school's old building and a potential relocation of the central office to free space for student programming. Funding sources and timelines were not specified.
The board plans further conversations about implementing the strategic plan and facility changes at future meetings.
