Mobile County honors 911 district after national accreditation

The Mobile County Commission on Feb. 25 recognized the Mobile County Communications District (MCCD, 911) for earning national accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), praising 911 staff for meeting nationally accepted professional benchmarks.

The resolution adopted by the commission said the accreditation "reflects compliance with nationally accepted standards" and noted that MCCD provides 24/7 emergency communications for law enforcement, fire and emergency medical services across more than 12,200 square miles. The resolution also stated that MCCD is the only 911 district in Alabama to obtain CALEA accreditation.

Robert Jackson, identified in the meeting as interim director of the Mobile County Communications District, told commissioners the accreditation was the result of extensive work by staff. "These guys and their employees ... they work hard. They work 24/7 when needed," Jackson said, thanking the board and the 911 workforce for their dedication.

Commissioners read and signed the resolution and publicly commended the district’s radio engineers, IT staff and call-takers for maintaining countywide communications and readiness. The recognition comes as the commission also noted two county employees scheduled to retire March 1.

By acknowledging accreditation in a public resolution, the commission framed the designation as a county-level endorsement of MCCD’s operational standards. No formal vote tally was recorded in the transcript; the item was presented and accepted during the meeting’s recognition segment.

The commission will proceed with regular business, including several contract and grant approvals scheduled later in the agenda.
