Council appoints Tyler Travis to Parks & Rec, Ron Schneerson to Planning Commission

Brookings City Council voted unanimously on Feb. 23, 2026, to appoint two community members to advisory commissions.
Tyler Travis was appointed to the Parks and Recreation Commission, position No. 1, with a term ending Feb. 1, 2028. Council members said Travis submitted an application, was interviewed and is already actively involved in parks and recreation matters. "We reviewed his application and interviewed him; we think he is a good candidate," one council member said before a motion to appoint carried on a roll-call vote.
Ron Schneerson was appointed to the Planning Commission, position No. 1, with a term expiring April 1, 2030. Councilors noted Schneerson's long-standing attendance at meetings and his interest in city issues. A council member who had met Schneerson recommended the appointment and the council approved it unanimously.
Both motions were moved and seconded on the consent of council and adopted by roll-call votes with no recorded no votes or abstentions.
Next steps: Newly appointed commissioners will be notified by the city recorder and will be scheduled for orientation and upcoming commission meetings.
