Mount Clemens commissioners held a public hearing May 20 on a Brownfield Redevelopment Plan for One North River Road and adjacent parcels, giving residents an opportunity to comment on the proposed development before the commission considers formal approval.
Staff explained the Brownfield Authority had reviewed and approved the application and that the developer secured a sharing agreement with the Downtown Development Authority. Before construction, the project must still complete normal permitting processes.
During the hearing resident Ruthie Stevenson sought clarification about what will go on the site and whether the Brownfield approval includes stipulations or conditions that address transportation or neighborhood impacts. Staff replied that applicants must submit a complete application to the Brownfield Authority and obtain required permits and approvals; the Brownfield Authority and DDA approval stages have been completed and the commission's action is the next step in that statutory process.
A second commenter said they were "really looking forward to the ground breaking." After public input the commission closed the hearing and advanced the Brownfield matter per the meeting agenda.
