The Mount Clemens City Commission voted May 20 to authorize application for an estimated $5 million Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (SRF) loan to fund replacement of water and lead service lines. The commission also designated the city manager as the authorized representative for project activities.
City staff explained that the loan application seeks funding for lead-service-line replacement using open-cut construction where required and that the application deadline is June 1, 2024. Staff noted the city was previously designated "overburdened" on an earlier application, which staff said may increase points for principal-forgiveness consideration under the SRF program.
Commissioners expressed support for the application and for the possibility of securing principal forgiveness, which would reduce local borrowing costs. The resolution to apply and to authorize the city manager to represent the city on project matters was approved by roll call.
