The Mount Clemens City Commission opened a public hearing on its proposed 2024–25 budget at the May 20 meeting, giving residents an opportunity to ask questions before the commission takes further action.
City staff said the budget had been reviewed at a May 6 work session and that the public hearing had been advertised as required. Copies of the budget are available online and at the city clerk's office.
Resident Ruthie Stevenson asked what portion of the budget is allocated to street removal and upkeep. Staff member Danielle answered that the Major Street fund includes about $1.3 million for reconstruction of Hubbard and Grand. She also identified a local-street line described as funded partly from the general fund; transcript wording around the local-street figure was unclear. "For Street Improvement in the Major Street fund we currently have about $1.3 million allocated for the Reconstruction of Hubbard and Grand," Danielle said, and added that some local-street projects will begin in fiscal 2024 and continue into fiscal 2025.
The commission clarified that opening the hearing did not constitute a vote to adopt the budget; it was an opportunity for public questions and for staff to respond. After public comment and staff answers, the commission moved to close the hearing.
Next steps for the budget process were not determined at the hearing; staff said amendments may be necessary if projects span fiscal years.
