Roanoke council adopts hazard mitigation plan, accepts event proceeds and approves supplemental public‑safety grant

Roanoke City Council on March 2 adopted three measures by roll call: a regional hazard mitigation plan, an ordinance accepting proceeds from Virginia's Blue Ridge Sports/USA Cycling, and an ordinance accepting a supplemental Operation Ceasefire grant.
Council adopted a resolution to approve the 2025 Roanoke Valley/Allegany Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan and authorized the city manager to take actions necessary to implement the plan.
Council also approved an ordinance to accept and appropriate proceeds from Virginia's Blue Ridge Sports and USA Cycling events; staff said the majority of that funding (including a noted $10,000) is designated for trails and greenway maintenance and that the city will host the USA Cycling endurance mountain bike national championships again this year.
Finally, council accepted a supplemental Operation Ceasefire grant from the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services, increasing the total supplemental award to $450,000. Staff said the funds will support supplies, equipment and training for police department employees.
All measures were adopted by roll call vote; council took no further substantive amendments at the meeting.
