Gilmer County juniors show gains on NMSQT; district to deploy interventionists and MasteryPrep

District staff presented preliminary NMSQT (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) results and an intervention plan aimed at improving SAT outcomes.
"Fifty-three percent of our juniors met standard," Mr. Fox reported, noting that the percentage represents an improvement over last year's 34% figure for the same cohort. He said math proficiency among tested juniors rose to 18% from 8% last year and described a list of students identified for targeted help.
Mr. Fox told the board there are roughly 14 juniors within about 30 points of the proficiency mark and about 10 students who are near the SAT career-ready cut score in math and English. To raise scores the district will deploy newly approved interventionists at the middle- and high-school levels and use MasteryPrep, a purchased self-guided SAT-practice platform. Administration also discussed scheduling boot camps and small-group interventions to move students over proficiency thresholds.
Board members praised the improvements and suggested incentives and recognition for students who achieve measurable gains. District staff said they will return with progress updates as interventions are implemented.
