Trustees reflect on state conference themes and honor district principal of the year

A board presenter recapped keynote remarks by Anmarie Anderson, emphasizing "operational clarity" and the idea of identifying the people who make up a board's "front row." Board members quoted conference speakers and breakout sessions to illustrate approaches to leadership and student outcomes. "We change our behavior to meet the expectations of our community, but when we look for our front row, we should look for the people who want to see you succeed and hold your standards when you are not in the room," one board member said, relaying a keynote point.

Trustees also described sessions on school employees' social media and the balance between First Amendment protections and workplace impact; members urged caution about public posts that could be disruptive. They praised student performances at the conference and said examples from other districts reinforced appreciation for local staff and programs.

Separately, board members detailed recent changes in how the district recognizes Principal of the Year, moving toward a nomination narrative and larger recognition events. They described recent surprise ceremonies that brought students and staff together to honor honorees and confirmed that Miss Barber, the district principal of the year, will be formally recognized at the district teacher-of-the-year celebration in April.

A staff memo in the meeting packet noted that region-six nominations for association officers are due in June and encouraged consideration of re-nominating Dr. Smith to serve as the region's representative.
