During its organizational meeting the Auburndale School District Board of Education filled officer positions and approved routine operational items, including personnel wages and financing parameters discussed in committee.
Board members elected Sue Rabin as board president, Kayla Goats as vice president, Sheila Jurnney as board clerk and Mike Sable as treasurer after nominations and voice votes. The board also approved the use of facsimile signatures for officers where legal and appropriate, and appointed Mike Sable as the district’s convention delegate.
The consent agenda — a package of routine items presented together — was approved by voice vote. The board approved open-enrollment applications (staff noted approvals are based on available space and educational needs and that some applicants may be placed on waiting lists), archery and HOSA travel for qualified students to Myrtle Beach and Nashville, respectively, and summer school contracts with no district-incurred costs reported for the archery travel.
On fiscal matters, the finance committee reported on presentations comparing options for investing bond proceeds and on a forthcoming PMA presentation for the board. The board approved proposed support-staff, administrative, miscellaneous and extra-duty wage schedules after committee review. The board also approved a resolution establishing parameters for sale of not-to-exceed $4.5 million general obligation promissory notes; staff noted the numbers align with what was shared with the community and could be adjusted later.
Motions on wage schedules and some contracts were approved by roll-call where recorded; other routine items carried by voice vote. The meeting ended with scheduling of committee meetings and a motion to adjourn.
