The Strafford County Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved a proclamation on April 23 declaring May as ALS Awareness Month after a request from Luke Haidok of Lee.
The chair read a message from Luke Haidok and asked the board to declare May as ALS Awareness Month; commissioners approved the proclamation by voice vote and directed the county seal be placed on the document and returned to Haidok. "Thanks again Luke for getting in touch with us," the chair said after the vote.
ALS, also known as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a progressive neurological disease that gradually reduces a person’s ability to walk, eat, speak and breathe. The proclamation recognizes the local impact of the disease and the county’s intent to raise awareness during May.
The proclamation will be signed and the seal affixed before being returned to the requester, the board said.
