Mesa County Valley School District No. 51 board certifies Nov. 4 election, swears in three directors and elects Chavez president

The Mesa County Valley School District No. 51 Board of Education voted to accept the certified results of the Nov. 4, 2025 coordinated election, then sworn in three directors and organized board leadership for the coming year.
Board leadership read the official abstract of votes submitted by the Mesa County Clerk and Recorder and moved to accept the results. The board declared Andrea Heights (District C), Casey Cole (District D) and Vicky Woods (District E) duly elected to four-year terms and certified the election results by board vote.
Director Andrea Heights, Director District C, repeated the oath of office: “I, Andrea Heights, do solemnly swear that I will faithfully perform the duties of the office of school board director as required by law and will support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Colorado and the laws made pursuant thereto.” Director Casey Cole and Director Vicky Woods took the same oath in turn. The board offered applause and expressed thanks to outgoing members identified in the meeting as Will and Angela for their four years of service.
Immediately after the swearing-in, the board moved to organize itself. Director Chavez was nominated and elected board president by roll-call vote. Director Vicky Woods was elected vice president, Director Andrea Heights was elected secretary, and Amy Evansson was confirmed to continue as assistant secretary/treasurer. Each officer was chosen by separate vote and received affirmative votes from the members present.
Board members were also told of upcoming meetings: a business meeting on Dec. 9 at 5 p.m., the district convention Dec. 11–13 in Colorado Springs, and another business meeting on Dec. 16. With the elections certified and officers chosen, President Chavez will lead future meetings.
The certification motion, the individual officer elections and the roll-call votes were the only formal actions taken during this portion of the meeting; no additional policy decisions were made at this time.
