Indian Prairie 204 seeks Reveal Math resource and to grant high-school credit for middle‑school honors geometry

District curriculum leaders presented proposed revisions to middle- and high-school geometry courses and sought board guidance and a public-comment window.
Barbi Chisholm, director of middle school core curriculum, joined by Molly Owles, math department chair at Waubonsie Valley High School, and Jessica M. Bogie, district math coordinator, described a multi-year realignment to ensure geometry content and pacing align across levels and to smooth transitions for students who move between levels midyear. The presenters said the honors geometry course will continue to be offered at eighth grade (project arrow math program) and at high school and will be aligned to a common final to account for new high-school credit arrangements.
Chisholm and colleagues recommended adopting Reveal Math — Geometry by McGraw Hill as the primary resource for geometry and geometry essentials. The recommended package includes a six-year digital license and the ALEKS adaptive digital practice platform. For honors geometry, presenters said the team elected to update and realign an existing (1991) honors resource rather than replace it because they judged its problem sets and levels of rigor to be superior for preparing students for higher-level math. Presenters outlined a professional development plan for teachers and a rollout that would align pacing guides and common finals.
A student asked whether the summer geometry program would change; presenters said no changes were currently proposed. Presenters said the 1991 honors edition is out of print but that print copies remain available through wholesalers and that digital supplements are being explored.
Administration requested the board open the proposed course changes and resources for public comment until the March 23 meeting and planned to return on March 23 to request approval of the resource adoption for geometry and geometry essentials and approval of the course changes for honors geometry and related high-school credit arrangements.
If approved, the district will proceed with planned professional development, resource licensing, and creation of common finals before fall implementation.
