Superintendent flags $300,000 possible budget hit from staff-insurance mandate; capital outlay wins noted

"Genie and I did some math this morning and we're looking at right at 300,000 that'll up our budgetary need for next school year," a presenter said, adding that the figure assumes only one more staff member takes insurance and that additional enrollment or take-up could push the cost higher. Staff said they expect the mandate to be funded by the state but will monitor the state's unit value (SEG) announcement next week to see whether funding covers the increase.
The superintendent also said another bill increases math licensure requirements and will force districts to develop a math plan and provide teacher training. Separately, staff announced the district's capital-outlay requests were awarded, including funds earmarked for a bus barn, cafeteria and gym improvements, cold storage and a maintenance vehicle.
Board members said they will watch the next state funding announcement closely and asked staff to prepare budget scenarios at varying SEG levels. No formal budget adoption occurred at the meeting; the board scheduled additional budget work for the upcoming spring sessions.
Personnel and program notes included a list of current job postings (instructional assistants, library assistant, substitute positions and a posted speech-language pathologist) and the district's need to intensify recruitment to fill critical roles that affect in-person services.
