Dr. Ki and staff recommended rewriting some survey questions for clarity and developing professional-development items tied to the findings.
A central discussion concerned what the board should require when members receive constituent emails. Options ranged from a 24–48-hour acknowledgment to a 3–5 business-day substantive reply; Miss Olson, the board secretary, already sends standard acknowledgement messages in some cases. Board members suggested using the district’s 'Let’s Talk' portal to ensure messages reach staff and to reduce lost emails going to junk folders.
The board also reviewed student-engagement activities: student advisory councils hosted at comprehensive high schools, rotating student ambassadors, and fall convenings that feed into a spring student-sounded board. Directors were encouraged to attend local student events.
What’s next: the board agreed to bring the question of a formal response timeframe to a future retreat or work session when all members can participate, and staff will draft options for board review.
