"What I really like about this is... the expectation of how teachers and staff address students with dress code concerns," the presenter said, highlighting guidance on respectful, consistency-minded enforcement.
Board members supported leaving day-to-day judgment to administrators while urging clarity to avoid inconsistent application across classrooms. One member noted the policy language requires coverage "from just below the clavicle to the mid thigh," which board members understood to disallow holes in those areas and to prioritize whether clothing disrupts instruction.
Board members also noted the student advisory committee reported feeling singled out in past enforcement; the new policy aims to prevent embarrassment and improve consistency. The board approved the dress-code revision in a roll-call vote.
Staff said they would follow up with principals at an administrative retreat to clarify enforcement intent and provide guidance to staff prior to the school year.
