The Tuscaloosa City Council approved a slate of resolutions and motions including professional services and public works contracts and the adoption of a sales tax holiday for certain covered items in 2026.
Clerk-led agenda items included authorization of a professional engineering services contract with Duncan Coker Associates PC and professional services agreements with Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. The council tentatively awarded public works contracts to Taylor Electrical Contractors Inc., Cornerstone Civil Contractors LLC and JT Harrison Construction Company Inc., and authorized smaller public-works and services contracts including Holyfield Electrical LLC, Black Warrior Asphalt Consultants LLC and Alertus Technologies LLC. Each resolution was moved, seconded and adopted by the council during the meeting.
Two ABC applications for specialty retailers of consumable hemp products were approved: Spirits Inc. d/b/a Spirits Package Store (4625 Rossmont Road NE) and M and O Mart LLC d/b/a Courts and Tops package store (1004 7th Avenue). Tuscaloosa Police Department reported no objection to the first applicant; both applications proceeded and were approved by council vote.
Council introduced zoning amendment numbers 37, 38 and 39 for public hearing and set June 9 as the date to consider adoption for each. The council also adopted a resolution establishing a sales tax holiday for certain covered items in 2026 and authorized payment of bills.
Votes were recorded on each item during the meeting; the clerk announced each adoption on the record. Several motions were unanimous, and where votes were recorded the transcript shows affirmative votes by council members.
