Caribou County commissioners on April 27 approved several Road & Bridge expenditures and contracts, including a new storage building and a targeted blast at a county pit to supply road gravel.
Kevin McClain, Road & Bridge, outlined operations work and recent bids, saying crews are hauling chip seal material and finishing mag‑chloride applications. McClain presented blasting quotes for the Ivins pit and recommended proceeding with a 35,000‑ton blast this year rather than larger, more expensive options.
Commissioner Bryce Somsen moved to accept a bid from Brad Skinner to construct a 60-by-60-foot dry storage shed for the Road & Bridge Department for up to $131,000; Commissioner Marty McCullough seconded the motion and it passed. The board then approved a contract with Eagle Rock Blasting for approximately 35,000 tons at about $70,400 after Somsen moved and McCullough seconded.
The board also authorized entering Local Transportation Account (LTAC) Local Agreement #2.6.1 for the 8‑Mile Bridge and approved an agreement with the Idaho Department of Lands reflecting new mineral prices effective June 20, 2026.
The commissioners discussed funding sources for bridge repairs, noting state funds could cover part of costs while county road budgets would cover the remainder. The meeting record shows the board weighed crusher moving costs versus idling equipment and elected the smaller blast to balance safety and expense.
The meeting included a brief executive session under I.C. 74‑206(a); no decisions from that closed session were disclosed in open session. The board’s routine approvals later in the meeting included claims and payroll as posted for public record.
