Brookings School District schedules high school science-area renovation and roof repairs for summer

Brookings School District 05-1 will begin demolition and preconstruction for a high school science-area renovation the week after school ends, around May 22, Superintendent Dr. Summer Schultz said Wednesday on Brookings Radio.
The district plans to renovate science rooms, add restrooms and create a study area outside the science wing as phase 1 of a larger plan. “They'll be starting that demo work and preparing for the construction right the sec the next week after we get out of school,” Dr. Schultz said, and she estimated phase 1 will not be finished until around October.
Dr. Schultz said administrators have worked through preconstruction logistics — dumpsters, entry points and subcontractor access — and will keep construction separate from summer camps and student activities to reduce disruption. She also said bids for roof repairs at the CTE building and the high school came in favorably enough to expand the square footage addressed this summer.
The district expects to stage work to minimize interference with scheduled summer programs; families and program organizers were advised the district will communicate arrangements for camps and building access.
Next steps: demolition and site preparation in late May; phased construction through October and roof repairs scheduled as bids and funds allow.
