EDC adopts five strategic objectives for 2026, backs VA250 events and tourism initiatives

The Madison County Economic Development Committee adopted five strategic objectives for 2026 focused on county economic priorities: researching possible uses of the landfill transfer-station property; researching tourism enhancements; evaluating development of Hoover Ridge as an event center; examining creation of a development district; and examining and recommending updates to the county tax structure.

Committee members discussed tourism planning in greater detail. The Madison County VA250 celebration is scheduled for July 2 on the library green; organizers are inviting guest speakers, arranging food trucks and planning other activities. Chairman Jewett raised a community theater project and the EDC agreed it should consider petitioning the Tourism Committee for funding, viewing a nonprofit community theater group as a potential tourism asset. The minutes direct staff to lead efforts to explore creating such a group and to report progress.

Staff also reported new private projects including ACE RV Sales and Service and a restoration/renovation in Madison Mills intended to create a general store and cooking academy; the committee asked staff to follow up with ACE RV to document how the company identified Madison County for outreach and development planning. The committee additionally identified developing a concept for a data-center-friendly development district along Route 29 and reviewing earlier revenue-enhancement and business tax analysis work as action items for staff.
