Board approves two-year contract for new superintendent Blake Cooper

The Churchill County School District board unanimously approved a two‑year employment contract for Blake Cooper on a motion that followed closed‑session negotiations.
Board leaders said the contract takes effect July 1, 2026, and will remain in force through June 30, 2028; before July 1, 2027 the board will consider whether to extend the contract by one or two years. The approved amendments also specify that in years when bargaining units do not receive a step increase, the superintendent would not receive an annual step.
President Malovich presented the terms, saying the board and consultants worked with Mr. Cooper to arrive at the draft. A motion to approve the contract carried unanimously.
Cooper addressed the board after the vote, saying, “It's an absolute honor to be the next superintendent of Churchill County School District,” and pledging to lead the district “with integrity” while drawing on his experience as a parent, teacher and district staff member.
The board did not discuss salary figures in open session. The board recorded the formal approval following reconvening from the closed session called under NRS 288.220.
The superintendent transition sets the administration for the 2026–27 school year and the board said it expects Cooper to work closely with district leadership on budget and staffing decisions already under consideration.
