Committee leaves S206 on the wall for further work amid questions about regulatory route

The chair said there was "some merit" to concerns raised by the Office of Professional Regulation but also said the committee needs more information about whether the policy could be achieved through the Department for Children and Families' existing regulatory framework rather than creating a new Office of Professional Regulation mechanism. The chair said the decision was intended to give staff and future committee members time to refine the proposal. "I think one of the main things is whether or not this can be accommodated in a regulatory process, as some other states are doing," the chair said.
Members agreed to pause action and revisit the measure in a later legislative session, thanking witnesses who had provided testimony and asking staff to assemble additional information on regulatory options and implementation costs.
The committee then recessed briefly and scheduled follow-up work.
