The letter said a teacher "remained calm, composed, and focused on ensuring the safety of every student" and described staff efforts to check on students, allow frightened students to call home, and safely collect students27 belongings that were damaged by glass and blood.
Superintendent Meyer and other board members praised staff and said the district and the Delaware County Sheriff's Office responded quickly. The board noted the event was not the type of incident for which schools routinely train, but that the coordinated district, school and county response prevented greater harm. No policy changes or new procedures were adopted at the meeting; the district said it would continue reviewing emergency procedures and follow up as needed.
