Caswell County commissioners voted April 20 to authorize staff to apply for a Duke Energy Storm Grant of up to $25,000 to bolster storm readiness and emergency response capabilities.
Interim County Manager Melissa Williamson described the grant as a limited opportunity with no required local match and said staff plans to use funds for training, stocking shelter trailers and basic shelter supplies, and running tabletop and full‑scale exercises to improve coordination with partner agencies. ‘‘There’s no matching funds for this grant and we are eligible to go after up to $25,000 for the county,’’ Williamson said.
Commissioner Rose moved to give staff authority to apply and the motion carried on a voice vote.
Why it matters: The grant would allow the county to procure equipment and training to improve response to storm events without drawing on county matching funds.
What’s next: Staff will prepare and submit the application before the April 30 deadline and return to the board with grant details and, if awarded, an implementation plan.
