Hernando board highlights Brooksville Elementary, New World Scholars, staff milestones and AI task force work

The board also recognized Springstead High School students for actions during a school incident on April 8 and presented New World Scholars awards (students who logged required tutoring hours under the Just Read Florida initiative). Speaker 17 listed individual students and their tutoring hours, noting one student provided 149 hours and another 196 hours.
The meeting included recognition of the district’s AI Task Force (speaker 19), which developed an "artificial intelligence guidance framework" to accompany board policy 75-40-08; the framework is intended to provide classroom-ready guidance that balances instructional uses of AI with ethics, student safety and academic integrity.
Athletic director Patrick McHugh of Weeki Wachee High School was honored for statewide recognition and for earning a national certified athletic administrator designation; Speaker 20 summarized McHugh’s districtwide athletic initiatives and community impact.
These recognitions were followed by procedural business and public comment.
