Commission pursues truck‑route resolution for Bridgeport quarry after residents report road damage
Summary
After residents complained about heavy truck traffic associated with a new SRM Quarry, commissioners directed staff to prepare a resolution to establish a designated truck route (via County Road 75 and County Road 587) and signage to keep heavy through‑trucks off County Road 94; staff noted prior shoulder improvements and MUTCD guidance favoring 'no through trucks' signage.

Jackson County commissioners on March 23 instructed staff to draft a resolution to establish a designated truck route for a recently opened rock quarry in the Bridgeport area after commissioners heard complaints that heavy trucks were damaging local roads.
Commissioner Gully said quarry traffic was “really tearing up the roads” on County Road 74 and County Road 94 and proposed routing quarry trucks onto County Road 75 with an approach from County Road 587 to limit damage on the alternate routes. County Engineer Greg Campbell explained staff had made shoulder improvements at the 74/75 intersection so trucks could negotiate the turn, but noted the intersection is skewed, has limited radius, and was improved only on the shoulder due to right‑of‑way and drainage constraints.
Campbell and other staff described existing warning signage for trucks approaching the intersection and cited the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) guidance, which suggests a "no through trucks" designation can allow local deliveries while restricting through truck traffic. Commissioners discussed exemptions for local delivery and enforcement considerations; one commissioner noted that enforcement could involve state authorities.
The commission asked staff to bring a resolution to the next meeting to formalize the truck route and signage. The resolution will define permitted routes (staff suggested County Road 75 to County Road 587) and list any local‑delivery exemptions. No vote on a final route or ordinance was taken at the March 23 session.
