County to receive $220,000 in state funds for County Road 452 improvements to Buck's Pocket area

Jackson County will pursue a state aid agreement to improve County Road 452, the route leading to the Buck's Pocket area, after County Engineer Greg Campbell briefed commissioners during a March 23 work session.
Campbell told the commission the county is “set to receive $220,000 in state funds with zero match.” He outlined the agreement’s principal requirements: the county must develop and provide a plan set signed and sealed by a professional engineer, provide all construction engineering and inspection, and submit detailed material reports and testing information to the state. Funding will be provided on a reimbursement basis, meaning the county will pay costs first and then seek reimbursement from the state.
Commissioners asked about the timeline and whether a professional engineer (PE) would be hired by the county or provided by staff; Campbell said the project’s progression depends on development and approval of the final plan set and receipt of an executed agreement and notice to proceed, after which construction timing will be driven by the selected contractor’s schedule. Commissioners also discussed coordination with neighboring DeKalb County for work on the adjoining roadway.
The commission asked staff to place the agreement on the next meeting’s new business agenda for formal action.
