Jackson County approves park mower purchase and $1.52 million local roads plan

Commissioners voted to buy a ZTrak Z930M lawn mower from TriGreen at a cost of $13,669.04, following a recommendation from Park Director Doug Parish. The commission also voted to surplus the park’s oldest mower. Both motions passed by voice vote.
In a related action, the commission adopted a local roads resurfacing plan that selects 15 miles from a larger candidate list. County staff said the full candidate list totaled about 96 miles, with hot‑mix resurfacing estimated at more than $12 million (or nearly $10 million if performed in‑house). The 15‑mile package approved for immediate work carries an estimated cost of $1,524,042. The commission approved the plan by motion and voice vote.
Commissioners also approved two budget amendments tied to the roads work. First, the commission authorized expenditure of FY2025 and FY2026 local roads program funds from Fund 410 (Rebuild Alabama Bond Fund). Second, the commission approved allocating $1,000,000 from the county general fund (Fund 001) to support the FY2026 local roads program and to reimburse the 20‑cent gas tax fund (Fund 100) and the half‑cent gas fund (Fund 111). County staff confirmed the general fund transfer amount as $1 million during the meeting.
All of the foregoing passed on motions and voice votes; the minutes record the actions as carried without individual recorded tallies. The commission set the next regular meeting for April 13 at 5:00 p.m.
The meeting then moved to a work session where additional public-works items were discussed.
