County staff asked the board to reallocate remaining contingency funds from a 2023 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) food-insecurity award to help the Boys & Girls Club of Dalton Valley complete purchase of a refrigerated food truck.
Staff said the contingency balance was not precisely finalized at the meeting but estimated between $40,000 and $50,000; commissioners voted to transfer the contingency to the Boys & Girls Club so the truck can be purchased before the grant closes in mid-June.
Later in the meeting Cocke County Fire Chief Cody Keys requested donation of a 1979 Seagrave engine to the Purcel Fire Department. Chief Keys told the board the volunteer department has sourced a compatible ladder truck with matching parts and can keep the Seagrave in service; commissioners approved the donation by voice vote.
Both items passed without recorded roll-call tallies in the transcript; staff said the CDBG reallocation will be finalized during grant closeout and the vehicle donation paperwork will proceed through standard county surplus and transfer procedures.
Next steps: Staff will finalize the CDBG contingency amount and execute a procurement or transfer to purchase the refrigerated truck before the grant deadline; county procurement and surplus departments will complete documentation to transfer the Seagrave engine to the Purcel Fire Department.
