County manager presents $560 million FY27 budget; council sets review and public hearing dates

Council members asked substantive questions about in-house road resurfacing, with a discussion about a multi-year in-house paving commitment described in the meeting as $4 million per year through 2032 and an associated per-mile savings estimate. Interim Assistant County Manager Eric Ricket described the $4 million-per-year commitment and explained the balance between in-house and contracted paving depending on capacity.
Members also asked about the county's process for making discretionary agency allocations and suggested exploring economic-development incentives and criteria that could support local nonprofit agencies. Councilors discussed referring a proposed framework to the economic development board and asked staff to return to the council with parameters and to include the matter on an upcoming agenda for collective discussion.
Next steps: Council received the recommended budget as information. First reading of the FY27 budget is scheduled for May 4, a public hearing is set for May 12 (as part of a budget workshop), second reading on May 18 and third reading on June 1; councilors said they will continue detailed review and raise follow-up questions at the scheduled workshops and hearings.
