Fort Myers Beach council on April 20 approved a package of actions to complete the town’s dune repair and scour-fill truck-haul project, awarding the construction contract and authorizing monitoring and related professional services.
Chad (environmental manager) told the council the project will restore dune elevations in several locations to a design target of roughly 6 feet where permitted and fill low-lying areas left below design elevations. Council awarded ITB-26-05-EN to EarthTech Enterprises, the lowest responsive and responsible bidder; the contract sets a 30-calendar-day schedule plus five days for substantial completion.
The council also approved a supplemental task agreement (STA4) with Coastal Engineering Consultants for construction-phase services and shorebird monitoring at a cost of $61,711. Chad said the monitoring and construction-phase oversight are required components of the project permit, and the town arranged turtle/shorebird monitoring (contracted through a qualified provider) to meet Florida Fish and Wildlife and permit conditions.
Access and staging will use designated town access points (Newton Park and Strand View) and allow private property staging agreements if the contractor negotiates them. Funding for the construction‑phase monitoring and this portion of work was described as coming from state FDIM and county funding with no local match for the specified elements; other related landscaping/restoration work will draw on water or stormwater fund budgets as appropriate.
Councilors asked about timing relative to sea-turtle nesting season and resident notice; staff said the contract includes turtle‑season monitoring and that staff will notify nearby neighborhoods impacted by staging. Chad said the town will seek to coordinate mine selection and staging once negotiations with the contractor are finalized.
Work is expected to begin after contract completion and authorization; staff will return with the executed contract and implementation schedule.
