Reno County board hears progress on CTE wing; turnover and public opening set for Oct. 24

Project managers updated the Reno County School Board on Oct. 2 that construction of the new CTE wing is advancing on schedule, with major site work, exterior finishes and mechanical rough‑ins largely complete.
"We actually put some asphalt down," said Mr. Todd Kaggels, one of three presenters introduced at the start of the item, describing a newly paved turn lane and entry road on Peters Creek and grading of the front parking lot. He said storm structures on the east side and sanitary and grease‑trap installations were finished, and that brick and stack stone on exterior walls are nearly complete.
Kamal Khalil, identified in the presentation as the project manager at W Kundiff and Glen Cove, and Wes Mitchell, introduced as project manager at RCCTC, said aluminum frame windows and glazing are going into the high‑bay areas and that most of Area A is now roofed and "dried in." Mitchell noted that the second‑floor slab in Area B will begin with an early‑morning pour the next day.
Board members asked about legacy equipment in some buildings. "They should be repaired," presenters said of older elevators, noting control panels were rebuilt over the summer and that replacement is not in the current scope but could be recommended if contingency funds remain.
A turnover and opening ceremony for the new wing was scheduled for Oct. 24; staff said administrators and the public are invited.
The board did not take formal action during the presentation; staff indicated the construction updates would continue to future meetings as punch‑list work and remaining exterior metal paneling are completed.
