DMPS board unanimously approves FY2027 budget, budget amendment, device sale and consent items

The Des Moines Independent Community School District Board of Directors voted unanimously on April 21 on several routine and budget items, including adoption of the FY2027 proposed budget and approval of a FY2026 budget amendment. All board votes reported that evening were 7–0.
After a public hearing with no speakers, Superintendent Smith recommended adoption and certification of the FY2027 proposed budget. Dr. Mayberry‑Maze moved to approve and Ms. Alonso seconded; the board approved the FY2027 proposed budget by roll call, 7–0. CFO Shashank Aurora was asked to present but no additional presentation was required.
The board then held a public hearing and approved a FY2026 budget amendment. Mr. Dix moved the amendment, Ms. Hopkins seconded, and the motion passed by roll call, 7–0.
A public hearing on the sale of decommissioned student devices and broken electronic equipment followed; there were no public comments. Mr. Howell moved to approve the sale and Ms. Campos seconded. The board approved the sale by vote, 7–0.
Earlier in the meeting the board approved the consent agenda, moved by Dr. Mayberry‑Maze and seconded by Ms. Campos. The board secretary reported that previously authorized payments totaling $3,674,389.09 were included in the consent items; the consent agenda passed 7–0.
No contested votes or amendments were recorded; the board adjourned the public meeting at 6:05 p.m. and moved into closed session.
