The Kansas State Board of Education voted to appoint Dr. Jake Steel as Kansas Commissioner of Education. The motion was moved, seconded and carried by the board.
Dr. Steel, who introduced himself to the board and the public after the vote, said he was "honored" and pledged to be present across Kansas. "I hope to earn my keep," he said, thanking the board, his family and Commissioner Randy Watson for mentorship and advice.
The board recorded the motion and vote and congratulated Dr. Steel as members and family came forward for applause and photographs.
