Flat Rock‑Hawcreek board approves resignations, policy updates, summer programs and job postings

The Flat Rock‑Hawcreek School Corp School Board on April 20 approved a series of routine personnel and policy items, including two staff resignations, updates to district policy, summer‑school dates and several job postings.
Superintendent (staff) told the board occupational therapist Sydney Abbott submitted a resignation effective at the conclusion of the 2026 school year and recommended the district post a shared‑service occupational‑therapist position that would be shared with three neighboring districts. “I recommend the board approve Sydney Abbott's resignation as presented,” the Superintendent said; the board voted to accept the resignation.
The board also accepted the resignation of teacher Audrey Bush effective May 26, 2026. Board members thanked Bush for her service and the motion to accept her resignation passed by voice vote.
On policy, the board conducted a second reading and approved revisions to administrative and financial procedures identified in the policy manual as F300, F300‑E1, F300‑E2 and F125. The Superintendent said the changes reflect recommendations from the state board of accounts and audit findings; staff will publish a clean copy and add it to the policy manual.
Summer‑school plans were set: the high school summer session will run May 27–June 18, 2026, 8 a.m.–11 a.m. daily, while the elementary session is scheduled July 13–23, 2026, 8 a.m.–11 a.m., a change the elementary principal said is intended to help rising third graders begin the year prepared. Principal Chris Fortune recommended Andrea Reid be approved to teach the 2026 summer session at Hower; the board voted to approve Reid.
The board approved an out‑of‑state fifth‑grade field trip to Kings Island on May 14, 2026 after brief discussion about weather unpredictability.
In other business, the board acknowledged that head boys basketball coach Trent Morehead is leaving for Center Grove and voted to post an anticipated opening for head boys varsity coach; it also approved posting for a general teaching position at Hower High School.
All listed personnel items, policy revisions, dates and postings were approved by motion, second and voice vote during the meeting. The board adjourned at the end of the agenda.
