The William Penn SD budget and finance committee reviewed a tax-appeal settlement involving 155 North Wyoming Avenue during the April 20 meeting, and staff outlined the assessment changes that created the reimbursement.
According to the treasurer’s items presented to the board, a county reassessment on Sept. 1, 2024 lowered the commercial property’s assessed value from about $9 million to roughly $6.1 million. Board discussion indicated the assessment drop led to overpayments for earlier bills and that the district’s share of refunds related to the adjustment is approximately $195,000 for the affected years. The treasurer confirmed the assessment change and the timeline of the reassessment.
Board members asked clarifying questions about the assessment history, how the interim bills were calculated and which years were affected. The board did not take a formal vote on the settlement at the April 20 meeting; staff will return with any formal documentation and a recommendation when a vote is scheduled.
