The Trousdale County Board of Education voted unanimously to adopt a visitors code of conduct that the board said is required by state law.
Director of Schools Dr. S told the board the law requires the code be posted and provided to employees and included in student handbooks so that parents and visitors have "due notice" of expected conduct. "If you're going to come in on our school grounds and you're going to threaten someone verbally or with a weapon, we are giving you due notice that that's not permissible on school grounds," Dr. S said during the discussion.
Board members debated whether the postings should extend to athletic fields and stadiums or focus initially on school buildings and student-handbook distribution. Dr. S recommended discussion between principals and the district office about placement and cost; the board agreed the item could be managed as part of routine budgeting once the district decided where to post signage.
Rachel moved to approve the visitors code of conduct; the motion was seconded and the board approved the policy by unanimous voice vote.
The board did not amend the policy text at the meeting. Implementation steps mentioned included posting the code at conspicuous entrances, distributing copies to employees and adding the code to student and parent materials.
