Trousdale County highlights summer learning camp, reports hires and remaining staffing gaps

Trousdale County school leaders reported progress on summer programming and personnel at the board meeting, saying a state team visited the district’s summer learning camp and praised the operation.

Officials described strong attendance and examples of student progress during the camp. "Do what you do — teach your kids…give our kids your best every day," one school leader said, summarizing the approach used while observers filmed classrooms.

Director of Schools Dr. S outlined recent hires and staffing needs: the district has hired head football coach Kyle Gregory, varsity softball coach Sean Link and elementary teacher Rebecca McMillan, and announced an assistant-principal hire (Jenna Coffin) for the high school. Dr. S said the district is still searching for an eighth-grade English teacher, a middle-school special-education teacher and a fifth-grade teacher, and characterized the district as roughly "three positions away from being fully staffed."

Officials also reviewed facilities work and upcoming trips: the district said architectural plans for a facilities project have been stamped by the fire marshal and posted for bids (bid opening scheduled July 16), and summer-learning students are scheduled to visit Kentucky Down Under as a concluding field trip.

Board members expressed support for the summer program, thanked staff for outreach to families, and encouraged continued recruitment efforts to fill remaining vacancies. The board did not take new personnel votes at the meeting beyond announcing hirings already finalized.
