Teachers union president hails tentative agreement that would raise most teachers’ pay

Orange described a plan that would leave the district's base salary for a new teacher at $50,000 while providing a $1,300 salary increase for all teachers and an additional $250 base increase for four teachers holding a literacy endorsement — meaning the maximum increase any teacher would see under the proposal is $1,550.
Orange said the agreement also includes modest changes to extracurricular pay, clarifies compensation for the National Honor Society sponsor to better match comparable activities, and contemplates a new elementary robotics team. She told the board negotiators added sunset language to bereavement leave and agreed factors for increases tied to evaluation, experience and academic need.
Dr. Brooks introduced the item and thanked union leaders and administrators for what he called "productive discussion." The board did not vote to ratify a final contract on Oct. 14; Orange said the tentative agreement will be discussed further and advertised ahead of the board’s next meeting in about two weeks.
No additional financial figures beyond the per-teacher increases were adopted at the meeting, and the board did not take a final vote on the contract. The district will return to the topic at its next meeting to determine whether to move from a tentative agreement to a ratified contract.
