District construction update: contingency, $281K slush fund and recommended corridor repairs

Contractors returned pricing for state-approved alternates totaling roughly $420,000. To use available funds prudently while preserving contingency for any further unforeseen issues, the project team recommended prioritizing completion of first-floor corridor finishes (new flooring, ceilings, lighting and paint), purchasing additional window shades, modest camera-system upgrades and a glass door / security separation that would improve access control between the district office wing and public areas.
Project staff emphasized logistics: corridor work is difficult to postpone into the school year and would benefit from summer scheduling, while smaller office renovations could occur later or be isolated to limit disruption. Staff also reminded the board that capital-project expenditures must follow the referendum scope and State Education Department construction numbers; work outside those boundaries would require additional approvals or a new vote.
Next steps: the board discussed the list and asked project staff to proceed with the prioritized corridor work and to return if contingency expenditures approach limits; any further allocation will be recommended only after drywall is back in place and the condition of remaining spaces is fully known.
