Student leaders from Bloomington High School presented a year‑end showcase to the Colton Joint Unified School District Board of Education on May 15, describing academic, arts and extracurricular highlights from February through May.
"We work hard at BHS to provide inclusive, caring, and exciting events and activities," said Vine Idan, a student leader who opened the presentation. He and three classmates—Oasio/Arasio Bosalto, Zoe Sutherland and Anthony Corddardo—walked trustees through recent events, recognitions and student successes.
The students described a February theater production in the Vivian Bish Auditorium, multicultural events hosted by student clubs, AVID revalidation and a choir festival judged by official adjudicators. They reported campus improvements including a new softball field and student murals and recounted senior celebrations: award assemblies, scholarship presentations and graduation‑related preparations. Student presenters said the district awarded $24,417 in scholarships to seniors this school year.
Athletics highlights included boys volleyball reaching CIF and a strong track and field season; Zoe Sutherland, who serves as sophomore class president, provided a season summary and shared senior recognitions in each program. The students also described student‑led events such as a job fair with local employers and internships, dual‑enrollment activities with San Bernardino Valley College, and community‑building traditions such as prom and class rallies.
Trustees praised the presentation. Board member Fuentes and others commended the students’ clarity, preparation and the school’s accreditation and AVID accomplishments. Principal Ra introduced the students and framed the presentation as the school’s effort to celebrate academic, athletic and cultural work before the summer break.
The presentation closed with trustees congratulating the students and inviting them forward for handshakes.
The board’s acknowledgement of the showcase came during the district’s final regular meeting before the end of the school year; several graduation ceremonies and district recognitions were noted elsewhere in the agenda.
