Fernley staff seeks volunteer steering-committee members for 20-year comprehensive plan update

Planning Director Michelle Rambo reopened a discussion continued from the last meeting about forming a steering committee for the City of Fernley comprehensive master plan update and asked commissioners to provide nominations or email nominees for consideration.

Rambo said there is no fixed committee size but commissioners suggested roughly seven to eight members; several commissioners said finding volunteers willing to commit was challenging. Consultant Fred Turner described the committee’s role as advising major milestones for a 20-plus year plan, with several meetings likely after work hours and an estimated commitment of five to 10 hours per month over the next 12 months.

Commissioners volunteered names and staff said they would follow up to collect contact information. The commission did not make final appointments at the meeting; staff said they will reach out to nominees and schedule steering-committee meetings when membership is finalized.

The discussion also touched on coordination between the steering committee’s work and the city’s north‑area master planning, including cultural-resource identification for a future trail/museum element. No formal motion was recorded to create committee membership during the meeting.
