The Select Board heard a report on the town’s perambulation (boundary monuments) project and voted to allow volunteer Jim Snyder to finish the perambulation report and return with findings in 2026.
Jim and Tom outlined fieldwork documenting monuments (some missing or buried), historic sources dating to 1648 and 1904, and plans to publish an interactive map. They described using town GIS to host coordinates and a portable iPad for accurate surveys. Presenters recommended treating monuments as historical objects, pursuing restoration for several damaged stones and using less intrusive marking (for example, small adhesive QR codes) instead of repainting.
Select Board member David moved to authorize completion of the report and requested recommendations for monuments needing restoration. The motion passed by voice vote.
Next steps: staff will integrate monument coordinates into town GIS, prepare restoration recommendations and return to the board with a final report.
