Board hears March financial report; capital projects near completion

Mr. Lumbert reported a March ending cash balance of approximately $21.4 million, with the general fund at $9.2 million, capital outlay at $4.4 million and the capital project fund at about $7.4 million. Payroll and benefits for March totaled just under $3 million, and investments were reported at about $18.8 million across local banks. Food service showed an accrued net loss of $243,000 for the month (down slightly from $260,000 a year earlier).
On capital projects, the transcript records that Brandon Valley Elementary construction had spent $21.7 million of a $27.6 million budget and the middle school addition $5.7 million of a $7.7 million budget. Mr. Lumbert said projects are starting to wind down, and total change orders across projects amounted to $741,000; roughly $700,000 of that was for an added community room that was not in the original bid package.
The board approved the bills and claims (totaling $2,150,000) and the financial report by voice vote. The fiscal-year revenue and expenditure pacing was described as ‘‘right at spot on with the budget’’ by the presenter.
The board passed routine approvals and will consider the preliminary budget in May and a formal budget hearing in July.
